The Varsity tennis team competed in their inaugural tournament for the spring 2025 season. The Lions participated in the North Forney Tournament and were spread out over four sites.
Kaufman medaled in four of the five events. Jackson Haynes placed third in boys singles after defeating Ortiz-North Mesquite 8-0, then Kelley-JJ Pearce 8-5 before falling to the number one seed Ackerman-Woodrow Wilson 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Haynes picked up his final win Garza- South Grand Prairie 6-1, 6-4.
In girl's singles, Kaufman's Isabella Negri and Amalia Garcia battled their way through the competition before they met each other in the third-place match. Negri defeated her teammate. No results were given.
In girls' doubles, both Lady Lion teams, composed of Samantha Sipriano/Dannielle Anderson and Peyton Duckworth/Alondra Bermudez, made short work of the competition, earning a 1st and 2nd place finish respectively. Both teams won in third set super tiebreakers in the semifinals to get to the final's match. Sipriano/Anderson won 8-4 in the finals.
Zachary Bryant/Laney Sanders were Kaufman's other first-place finishers. Bryant/Sanders competed in the mixed doubles division and proved to be the strongest in the draw. Bryant/Sanders won all their matches in straight sets.
The Lion netters will compete against Van in a dual match on Thursday, January 30.
