The varsity tennis team completed their district schedule on Tuesday, October 1 against Midlothian Heritage. The Lion netters looked strong on the boys' side of the team. Kaufman's two team, Ivie/Santoyo, dominated their opponents winning 6-0, 6-0 followed by the one team, Haynes/Bryant with a straight-set win as well. Lawrence/Mendoze delivered the final win for the boys at line three 6-4, 6-1.
With the girls' side and mixed doubles still battling, all four matches descended into third-set tiebreakers. Kaufman's line two and three girls found their rhythm under pressure and squeezed two more wins, courtesy of Perez/Negri and Garcia/Duckworth. Kaufman's mixed team, Crowley/Quiroz, delivered the final blow of 7-6 (2), 2-6, 10-0, giving Kaufman the overwhelming lead of 6-1.
Going into singles, Kaufman proved too strong in most areas with a few tight matches. Kaufman's Laney Sanders, Lance Ivie, Zach Bryant, and Colton Lawrence delivered the final four wins. Jackson Haynes, Samantha Sipriano, Diego Santoyo, and Steven Quiroz added to the win.
Kaufman will play Waco High School in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Tuesday, October 8. If Kaufman prevails, they will play the winner of Woodrow Wilson High School or Dallas Adamson at Forney on Thursday, October 10 in the area playoff round.
On Thursday, October 3 the undefeated JV squad played for the district title. Kaufman grabbed a quick 6-1 lead in doubles. Wins came from Joseph Salmeron/Andrew Muse, Aiden Muse/Rylee Reyes, Levi Russell/Yahel Lopez, Dannielle Anderson/Alondra Bermudez, Lily Martin/Stephany Amaya, and Sutton Wade/Angela Llamas. Kaufman never looked back after that. The Lions went undefeated in singles, making the overall victory 18-1 and giving the JV team the district title.
