The Kaufman Tennis Team competed against Forney on Monday, August 12. The Lions started the year with a 3-0 win streak. The Jackrabbits hoped to slow the momentum.
As doubles kickoff, matches stayed close on the boys' side and in mixed doubles. However, the Lady Lions made short work of the Lady Jacks. Laney Sanders/Belli Negri delivered a 8-2 victory at line one doubles. Meghan Crowley/Olivia Perez were the first off the court winning 8-0 at line two followed by their teammates Lilyann Martin and Peytin Duckworth at line three, 8-4 being their result.

Kaufman's boys battled hard, but dropped line one and two boys doubles. Zach Bryant and Daniel Mendoza found their rhythm at line three, winning 8-4. Mixed doubles followed them shortly, delivering a 8-6 victory courtesy Steven Quiroz and Samantha Sipriano. In single play, the Lady Lions swept the Jackrabbits across all lines. Once again, Kaufman's boys struggled to their way. Jackson Haynes, Lance Ivie, and Zach Bryant chiseled out victories at line one, two and four respectively.

On the day, Zach Bryant earned the Boys MVP while his teammate Samantha Sipriano earned it on the girls side. Meghan Crowley was awarded the Low Scorer Award.

On Thursday, August 15, the JV tennis team opened their season against a tough Tyler Legacy crew. Despite a valient effort by the Lions, they were simply outmatched by the 6A powerhouse. Wins didn't come easy on the day, but several Lion netters found a way to deliver one. The following Lions and Lady Lions delivered victories: Stephany Amaya, Alondra Bermudez, Amalia Garcia, Daniel Mendoza, Aiden Muse, Andrew Muse, Steven Quiroz, Rylee Reyes, and Sutton Wade. Andrew Muse earned MVP honors for winning both of his matches.

On Friday, August 16, the varsity hosted Frisco Wakeland for a dual match. Wakeland was ranked #3 overall in the state class 5A. The Lion netters hadn't seen this level of competition and were eager to face off against a high-caliber team. Doubles proved to be hard fought across all lines. Wakeland's ladies are considered the best in the state and Kaufman's Lady Lions battled boldy, but couldn't match their level. The Lion's line two boys (Diego Santoyo and Zach Bryant) upset the Wakeland's boys. As the match entered into singles play, Kaufman struggled to find their rhythm but fought hard nonetheless. Steven Quiroz delivered a huge victory at line four singles with a 8-1 win. The overall score was 17-2 in Wakeland's favor. Despite such a one-sided victory, the Lions played with the usual intensity and effort expected of them.

Next week, the tennis team will kickoff district play against Ennis on Tuesday, August 20.
