The Kaufman Tennis Team has been active this week. The team wrapped up the week with two solid victories over Van and Rockwall Heath. The Lions took on the Vandals on Wednesday, August 7 and followed up with the Hawks on Thursday, August 8.

On the road at Van, the tennis team came out strong in doubles. The boys' side dominated the competition, sweeping the Vandals on all three lines. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions won two of the three lines at lines one (Laney Sanders/Olivia Perez) and three (Lilyann Martin/Peytin Duckworth). Kaufman's Steven Quiroz and Samantha Sipriano squeezed out a win in mixed doubles in a tiebreaker to give the Lions a 6-1 after doubles.

The Lions rallied through singles, winning nine of the twelve matches. The boys swept the entire side with Jackson Haynes leading the charge at line one. On the Lady Lions side, Laney Sanders delivered a big win at line one singles. Lance Ivie earned the honors of Boys MVP while Laney Sanders was the Girls MVP. Heart Awards went out to Steven Quiroz and Samantha Sipriano.

The Lion Netters battled a tough Rockwall Heath team in extreme heat the following day. Both teams grinded away in doubles. Kaufman's boys won two of the three lines at the top spots, courtesy of Jackson Haynes, Lance Ivie, Diego Santoyo, and Zach Bryant. Lilyann Martin and Peytin Duckworth helped the Lady Lions gain a win at line three adding to the overall score. Finally, it was Kaufman's mixed team, composed of Steven Quiroz and Samantha Sipriano, that delivered the final blow in doubles, making the score 4-3.

Things continued to tighten in singles play as temps rose and sweat dripped. Kaufman's top boys, Haynes, Santoyo, and Ivie, quickly gave the Lions an edge with three dominant victories in straight sets. The Hawks matched the Lions with another four wins on the ladies side, making the overall score 7-7. Digging deep after losing the first set, Kaufman Zach Bryant, Meghan Crowley, and Steven Quiroz, battled back to split sets. Each athlete fought through a super tiebreaker to give the Lions the overall win 10-9.

Lance Ivie was awarded the MVP while Meghan Crowley earned the same distinction for the ladies. Heart Awards went to Zach Bryant and Steven Quiroz
